This is something i've wanted to do for about the last decade or so. I know my parents wlll loathe it, but i had to anyway. I'm a big geek about symbolism in things, and this carries a lot of symbolism for me. The Peony is a flower of May. It stands for happiness, prosperity, love and affection. Our son will be born in May, this was a sort of acknowledgment of that. Common in Chinese symbology for a peony is as a positive influence on a couple. Red is a life giving color, which is why i picked red as the color. The peony in Japan also has a bit of an audacious or adventurous attitude, which i guess is appropriate for a 29-year old guy that's about to be a father getting a big tattoo. I do apologize to my parents for getting this, but i do not regret my decision. It is a piece of art that carries a lot of meaning for me.

The symbols require activation by a practicing monk at temple or a mentor (which i learned i couldn't do becasue i'm a woman). I figured my time on the road might call for a spell anyways: it's basically 'protection for the lone traveler'. The smaller symbols inside are marks of the villages. Elephants indicate wisdom and good luck, which is fine by me: I rode an elephant years ago and since then, i've run into a few (or they've run into me).

This is the top side of the tattoo. It carries a lot of symbolism as well. The koi is filled with symbolism, which is why it's such a popular tattoo subject. Koi symbolize bravery, in that when a koi is caught, it apparently does not flop around like many other fish. A koi symbolizes aspiration towards betterment, and the overcoming of difficulties. A koi also is known for swimming upstream, and going against the flow. Black, the predominate color of my koi, symbolizes the father. That was the impetus behind this entire tattoo. For those of you who that have a tattoo, no explanation is necessary. My best friend said once that a tattoo, no matter what the subject matter, marks a place in time for the person getting it. I can't think of a better way to describe it. For those that do not have a tattoo, no explanation will ever make sense.

This is the Hindu symbol Om. It is the symbol of the Absolute. I was asked to do a symbol of importance and great meaning. This is the first thing that came to mind. In this picture the paste is still setting. The next day the symbol was barely visible. She kept the paste on for about 8 hours but her skin there was just too resistant. Even after a touchup reapplication the next day it still would not hold. Unfortunate because I had the shape very crisp! It would have been beautiful. I made a home made transfer to use as a template, but that was drawn in reverse in free-hand. I want to try this design on someone again. Volunteers?

I can't think of a better way to describe it. For those that do not have a tattoo, no explanation will ever make sense.

For my 26th birthday, I went and had a new tattoo done. Just wanted to share tattoo number 3 with all of you. This is on my right wrist wrapping almost all the way around. There are a total of 6 symbols. 2 symbols make up each word. The first two stand for daughter, the middle two stand for Destiny and the last two sand for Twilight. I had it done in the thick tribal black.

This is something i've wanted to do for about the last decade or so. I know my parents wlll loathe it, but i had to anyway. I'm a big geek about symbolism in things, and this carries a lot of symbolism for me. The Peony is a flower of May. It stands for happiness, prosperity, love and affection. Our son will be born in May, this was a sort of acknowledgment of that. Common in Chinese symbology for a peony is as a positive influence on a couple. Red is a life giving color, which is why i picked red as the color. The peony in Japan also has a bit of an audacious or adventurous attitude, which i guess is appropriate for a 29-year old guy that's about to be a father getting a big tattoo. I do apologize to my parents for getting this, but i do not regret my decision. It is a piece of art that carries a lot of meaning for me.
