filipino tattoo designBaybayin tattoo/translation design for Dyan. It says her name, Dyan. There were two ways about phonetically translating the name, "Dyan", which were either as Da-yan or De-yan. After consulting with her, it was decided that De-yan would be the closest translation to her pronounced name. I'm quite satisfied at how the characters came out; I developed a bit more on my regular break-and-repetition style, and followed the curve lines more closely. I think it came out quite nicely. flower vine tattoo designso i went for my tattoo today but came out with out a tattoo. the artist was running slightly late (i watched him doing a design based on the calvin & hobbes snow art on this chap's arm - it was awesome) and then we spent an hour pouring through books (a plant book and a couple of art and tattoo books) so that he could get a clear idea of what i wanted in his mind. once he'd established a style he attacked me with sharpie markers to decide on the layout and detail of the design. i'm now covered in yellow orange and brown felt pen. and already i love it. the flowers will be red shaded down to orange and the foliage two shades of green. hopefully i'll be getting the actual ink done first week in june.

full hand mehndi design pictureMy ex wanted me to practice some of my free-hand design on her. In particular, she wanted a design that graced the hand and draped down a finger or two, with a set of rings that I had been wanting to try out. I used a little bit of Pagan inspiration in this piece, featuring a double pentagram. In hindsight there are a lot of things in this piece that I would like to do differently. But in the end, it was just free-hand practice. What we noticed was that the design and the color that took went very well with the colors she chose during her manicure just prior to me doing my work. The colors aren't the same in the picture as they were in real life obviously; it worked together much better in person. This was taken the day after removing the paste, and already you can see the paste is very dark and deep in color. It just depends on the skin...
