My neighbour and very good friend Pauline is full-blooded Cree of the Moose Tribe. She recently conferred upon me the spirit of the bear as my guardian and guide. 30x30cm Acrylics and ink on wood panel This one get a bit political but I wanted to include a message.. Ainu are the native people in northern islands of japan (and parts that are now russia). They have been recognised by the japanese governess as indigenous people only last month. My thesis was on ethnic minorities in UK, mostly because I didn't want to be disappointed with my country anymore. Racism in Japan is quite bad. It is based on a myth that Japan is a homogeneous nation. It is not. Most ethnic minorities hide their origins and have blended in with the "mainstream". then the way of life, words and rituals are forgotten. The patterns on the bandana are the colours of their flag, the pattern is based on their traditional decoration, and bears are the most sacred animals to them. I am personally not Ainu but the ignorance of the majority of the Japanese people to dismiss anythi.
