Sacred Underground Caverns in Mexico
In Chaak Tum, Mexico, we went beneath sacred Mayan Temples down into the caverns below. The caverns were featured in Planet Earth, which says enough. The water in the caverns was considered sacred, and has just opened to the public... and I'm a lucky girl to be one of the first allowed in. This particular photo shows the Stalactite formations... amazing. It's really hard to shoot down there because of how dark it is, but I did my best to blow out my exposure so there could be details for us to see amongst the dark caves and bats. Quite possibly, the single, very best, most mind-blowing and amazing experience of my life..
Underground in Mexico
Blown out exposure to be able to see detail; in reality it was incredibly dark. This was underground as we were walking through to our swimming site (we were still relatively close to ground level, only about 20 feet below)..

Hive
I actually couldn't even see this hive while I was there since it was so dark; it was only because I blew out my exposure that I could tell. Otherwise I never would have known it existed; thank god for my D3 :D This was underground as we were walking through to our swimming site (we were still relatively close to ground level, only about 20 feet below)..

it's so hard to tell how large these caverns were underground. this was only the first room and it was bigger than my entire house and there's six of us who live there....
