According to Japanese legend if a koi succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River it would be transformed into a dragon. Based on that legend, it became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement. More generally, the Japanese associate koi (also known as carp) with perserverance in adversity and strength of purpose. Because of its strength and determination to overcome obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals..

Just a test spray, for some new stencils I am working on. This one came out a bit rough as I used regular black spray paint in stead of Montana black. Lesson learnt. I think that I will re-cut it and do a run on canvas. 6 layers lost count of colors.
Koi Sleeve: Session II
Round two of my koi fish sleeve with Scotty "Munster" Stommes at Olde Town Tattoo in St. Cloud, Minn. The black koi represents myself as a father, the orange koi represents my daughter and one more koi on my upper arm will represent my son. The water and lillies represent my wife because of her beauty and that she is the reason we're all alive..
