Photos from the exhibition in Robert L. Stevenson's Mansion
While we were in Samoa, we visited Robert Louis Stevenson's Mansion. We had luck, because not only we saw the beautiful house, the interesting rooms and got some idea of how Stevenson lived ages ago, there was also an exhibition of old German photographs made during the time when Samoa was a German colony. It was highly interesting to see of what and how German photographers took pictures of, especially when compared to the English or French photographs we saw on our journey. Primarily the photos showed people from Samoa or people and their living conditions. You could seldomly see - as with English or French colonists - Germans surrounded by "the wilds", posing in their imperial role. Not only the photos awakened my interested in getting some information about what happened in the years between 1899 to 1919..
