My tattooed mermaid...with a bare tushy (I am cheating to catch up...I know, I suck).

Some couples have date nights...we get tattooed together. :-) My parents jokingly tell Mike that it is all his fault that I am becoming 'heavily' tattooed. It really isn't, I've always wanted tattoos but he allowed me to finally let loose and start. You have to start somewhere and my somewhere was just over a year ago w/a cliche fairy on my back. 4 multi-sitting pieces later and I am not planning on stopping. My pirate ship is my latest and it now has 6 hours of base outline and shading and 3-4 more hours of color to be added. Estimated 6 hours and my half leg sleeve should be complete. I shocked myself this morning by feeling strong cravings for starting another piece, immediately. We are planning on heading east of the mountains during the last week of November or the first week in December for one last sitting for the year. It sure has come a long way from this . After getting home and taking off the bandages and cleaning it up. I can't believe the amount of detail...I have yet to give Shawn a small, one-sitting piece. The star on my neck hardly counts as it was a spur of the moment idea that I got while sitting for my second session to finish my forearm..

Oh the pain! 3 hours done w/my new pirate ship on my mermaid leg. I cannot wait for it to be finished...I just wish I didn't have to be present for the upcoming sessions... The outline wasn't too bad, it was when he got to coloring in the black flags and sails that it really got to me. We took a 20 minute break and my leg got that wonderful warm, tingly feeling that accompanies a new tattoo and by the time we got back into it, he began shading and it was too much. I tapped out after 3 hours. Shawn will be back in town in November so I will get more done on it then, unless we make a trip to Moses Lake before then. The afterburn of a new tattoo and the finished product (obviously) are my favorite parts of getting new ink. I dont mind the sensation of the needle but sometimes I really have to concentrate on my breathing and set my mind to "experience" rather than "surviving" the pain. If o.

My Mermaid
My second piece...I didn't expect her to turn out so large but I figured...go big or go home! :) If anyone recognizes the style, she is a combination of a few different David Delamare prints. I think David's mermaids are the only ones w/petuties....
