Celtic tattoo left lower leg Part 1
Had the lion done first, in february 2005. Just over a year later, after I started work on the Maori tattoo on my right leg in october of '05 I had it finisged. Took two more sessions. The Bird was done first and the dog second. Pretty pleased with the result, will have this expanded to my upper leg in the near future, after I finish my iban-style backpiece (and have enough money again LOL). This is the Lion I had done first..

after talking about this for well over two years, i got my second tattoo today: a celtic bird, based on a design from the book of kells . the red head and orangey neck symbolize the head and ruffle of a turkey vulture, a bird with which i've long felt a kinship. i designed the color scheme myself, inspired by the muted hues of illuminated manuscripts. i'm a bit overwhelmed (it's a little bigger than i expected, in order to keep the details). but i'm happy. i keep looking at it, at the bird's face. it's as if he's just lighted here, looking at me, getting used to me. and i'm getting used to him. he looks a little sad, too, and i love that. like he knows where i come from, and he's willing to help me carry that for the rest of my life. in fact, now that i look at him, it's as if the knot in his mouth is a stray strand of grass, like he's building a nest. he's here for good. he's home..
